Principal's Message
Welcome to Bethany Community Middle School Family!
I would like to extend a warm welcome to a new school year. The staff and I are looking forward to working with you and your children this year. We will strive to continue to provide an exciting and rewarding educational program for each and every child at BCMS. The beginning of each new year brings a measure of excitement and anticipation. It is also a time of rejoicing and rededication, and we are excited about what lies ahead for our students for the coming school year. We are energized by the changes of a new class of students, a new grade level, or, for some of you, a new school. We begin the year with fresh ideas, exciting plans, and great anticipation.
One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and the parents who work together for the best interest of children. The close partnership between home and school is one of the exceptional strengths of Bethany Community Middle School. BCMS has strong tradition of supportive, hard-working parents. Thoughout the year, parents have the opportunity to develop that partnership in a wide variety of ways. Parents can join the PTSO, volunteer in the classroom, help at the school festival, volunteer for field trips, and help in many other ways. It's a way to let your child know that you think his or her school is very important.
It is important for home and school to work together to build strong character in our children. Clearly, when it comes to character building, the family is the key, both at home and school. Schools have a supportive role to play in character building. Schools not only help children become literate and well informed, but they must also help them develop the capacity to live responsibly and to be able to judge wisely in the matters of life and conduct. School can reinforce those universal values we all cherish and which we hope our children will demonstrate when we are not around. We want them to demonstrate character traits such as responsibility, honesty, respect, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, perseverance, tolerance, and initiative in their everyday lives. These character traits will enable them to be successful in life.
As we begin, a new school year, we find teachers establishing school standards and rules. In the most successful classrooms, teachers have established specific routines for the children to follow. This means giving the children a specific place to find and keep materials, a set schedule for classroom instruction, and so on. These routines, blended with the teacher's consistent standards, form a smooth-running classroom where the children have the security of understanding their environment and are reinforced positively for their contributions.
The guiding passion of BCMS is to prepare each of our students to be citizens of exceptional character through community involvement, academic innovation and scholastic excellence.
I am confident that the coming year will be filled with rich and rewarding experiences that will reinforce the ideals and beliefs that we value in our everyday lives as we grow and work together.
“It’s a great day at BCMS where every student is a S.T.A.R.” We have Great Expectations for all students, be safe and Reach for excellence!
